MATHEUS COELHO Matheus Coelho, a Brazilian conductor and doctoral student at the University of Toronto, possesses a deep passion for music and a versatile talent influenced by classical and Brazilian popular music.
Having earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Manitoba under the guidance of Naomi Woo, Coelho's career spans symphonic, choral, and operatic performances. He honed his skills at the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra Academy of Music (OSESP), studying under the renowned Marin Alsop and performing alongside esteemed conductors.
Coelho's contributions extend beyond conducting; he founded and directed the Experimental Camerata of Campinas, a platform for classical and popular music exploration. He has also served as an assistant conductor for orchestras like the UNICAMP Symphony Orchestra and the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra.
Deeply connected to the vocal realm,
Coelho has performed operatic roles and staged operas, showcasing his versatility. His doctoral research at the University of Toronto focuses on the works of Brazilian composers Chiquinha Gonzaga and Heitor Villa-Lobos, exploring the intersection of musical and social themes in their compositions.
Matheus Coelho's journey is marked by his commitment to musical excellence and exploration, evident in his participation in masterclasses, fellowships, competitions, and award recognitions throughout his career.
