York Region Youth Orchestra Auditions

 

The York Region Youth Orchestra is pleased to announce auditions. Applications will be accepted online, with video submissions required.

2025-26 Season:

The season will run from Oct to June (School Year), and will include a concert on June. Please note that the 2025-2026 full season began on October, 2025 and this audition is for participants joining in the second half of the season.

Deadline for Application: Ongoing recruitment
Audition Fee: $35 + HST (Total $39.55)
Orientation Date: Will be communicated individually.

Audition Information: 

1. Eligibility: Age 10 to 23.
Applicants must have experience at or above RCM Level 4; beginners are not eligible.

2. Recruitment Instruments:
Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Tuba, Percussion, Harp

3. Audition Requirements: One solo piece and one of below scales
 
• Violin, Viola :
3 octaves E major and minor (harmonic and melodic), or 3 octaves G major and harmonic minor. 

• Cello: C Major scale (3 octaves), A Major scale (2 octaves), one solo. 

• Woodwind (Flute, Clarinet, Oboe): Db Major scale and arpeggio (2 octaves), G# Minor scale and arpeggio (2 octaves), Chromatic scale on B (1 or 2 octaves), one solo. 

• Brass: 1 octave chromatic scale, one solo.
 
Submission Instructions: 

1. Upload your video to your Private YouTube Channel (set as 'Public') or Google Drive (set as share with anyone who has link) . 
2. Online Registration Audition Registration Form (link)

• Your name
• Your Instrument
• Title of Solo piece
• Private Video link Youtube or Google Drive (no video files please)

 3. The successful applicants need to pay a year’s tuition fee will be provided with an invoice.
